The now infamous 70 race season

Image
I joined Darwen Dashers at the back end of November in 2014.  I had toyed with the idea for a few months but wanted to have a crack at playing football at a higher level than I had done previously.  My expectations of it seemed much higher than I found and my interest in playing the game was fading fast.  I just didn't have the drive or motivation to play the way I used to on a regular basis.  It wasn't anything to do with the team/manager or anything like that, just on a personal level, I felt like I didn't have the same desire anymore.  Even when I scored, I didn't feel that same buzz and I had dabbled with 2 or 3 runs per week for a couple of months, only 10 miles max in total to be honest. When I joined the Dashers, I heard about a trophy that was given to the runner who'd done the most races over a season.  I knew about the club championships on the roads & fells, but being so fresh to the running scene (knocking on a 20 year absence), I knew ...

ashmei merino wool & carbon trail running socks

ashmei have cracked it. The best & most comfortable running socks, or any type of sock in fact, that I have worn to date.  I've ran nearly 40 miles in them since ashmei kindly donated a pair to us ambassadors on Saturday morning and they honestly still feel & look like, brand new! As soon as you feel them you can just tell they will be quality, but, as we all know, some things feel good in hand but don't quite do the job you want them to.  I can't say that for this bit of kit though, they do exactly what they promise on the labelling. As I mentioned, I've ran nearly 40 miles in them already including every type of terrain you can imagine apart from snow!  I've tested them on the roads - flat, up hill and down hill as well as at a casual speed and a race pace.  I've ran up to Darwen tower in them on the trails and I made sure I crossed muddy fields and fells in them.  You can never test something too much can you?  Well, only up unt...

Return of the Blog! As many of the previous readers will know, my blog started out as a kind of story regarding my knee injury and eventually turned in to an aid for people who had suffered the same fate, which is more than I could ever have asked for! I have put it off for a year or so as I felt it had run its course in terms of its initial use and didn't want to drag it on more than it needed to be.  But since my first fell race, which I blogged about in a previous post, I have competed in the same race again since, as well as completing numerous 10K's along with fell races, trail races and other road races. My enjoyment for running has grown ten fold and I actually enjoy this a lot more than playing football these days...Something I myself, and everyone who knows me, never thought I would say!!! I am now a full fledged member of a running club, Darwen Dashers, as they are known.  A club I had connections with as a child but only since November 2014 did I ch...
